Health Matters

You are what you eat!

Have you ever heard the statement ‘You are what you eat?’ It is vital to our wellbeing that we eat right. Not sure what you should eat to keep healthy and feeling good. I am always looking for guides to help me. I like this one from the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating. You can print it out, like I did, and put it inside your pantry wall as a reminder.

We all know what we have been eating and what indulgences are hiding in the corner of our fridge. I understand that you have to hide your favourite snack food when you have children or a partner. Your favourite snack food to others is like finding hidden treasure. It now belongs to those who found it!

Have you ever had the experience of wanting to snack on a pack of potato chips or a chocolate you put away to find they no longer exist? If this has happened to you, be thankful. Better that someone else eats the unhealthy snack. Time to look for something that is nutritional. Take a look at Kayla Itsines 25 easy healthy snack ideas. Look out for the watermelon smoothie recipe. It is a perfect for the summer weather in Queensland.

Smoothies are a great way to get nourished and easy on our digestive system.

COVID-19 has had an impact on us and some of has have joined the COVID CUDDLY army. However, now it is time to take that early discharge and join the Wellbeing movement to get fit and healthy in 2021. One way to do this is to be more aware of what we are eating – putting into our mouth!

We all know that the arts and creative industries have taken a big hit in 2020. And it continues into 2021. Many people who work in these industries are feeling the pain. There has been a loss of connection with their creative imagination due to a downturn in work projects.

David Lipnowski a photographer who lives in Canada, became a stay-at-home Dad, due to COVID-19. This led him to a new venture ‘A Creative Photo a Day Project of what I’m eating during COVID-19.’ Have a look at the link and at the bottom on the fourth paragraph click on Dave Eats Winnipeg. This will take you to all his food photos (on Instagram). Some of his meals are more healthier than others.

On the other hand, if you want to find a balance with food and fitness then take a look at Jessica Sepel’s website. She has hundreds of healthy quick and easy recipes. If you, like me, are still to write down your goals for 2021 then look at her ‘5 health resolutions for 2021 that DON’T require dieting.’ It all starts with drinking 2 litres of water a day.

It is a good reminder for ME – ‘we are what we eat’ as I go on my wellness journey in 2021.

Watch out for my article on the ‘Quality of our personal relationships’ later in the week.

Bon appétit! You are what you eat!
